OUR HISTORY

Beginnings

A Bible Study and fellowship group which later became the Chinese Gospel Church started in 1984.  In 1992 Pastor Peter Wu and his wife, Joanna, were called to serve in Detroit.   The Chinese Gospel Church (CGC) was established in 1994 here in Livonia.  Its primary focus was to serve the Chinese Christian community in the western and northwestern parts of Metro-Detroit.  The church started cell groups in neighboring cities in 1998. By God's grace we have grown as a congregation over the years.

Pastor Henry Shen, the leader of our Mandarin ministry, began his service at CGC in September 2013.  Our English Pastor, Richard Goers, joined our church staff in 2014 with the English services starting formally in January of 2015.  Ben Shearer, our Youth Pastor, began his ministry at the church in 2012.

Most of the people in our congregation are first generation Mandarin-speaking immigrants from Asia.  They came to the U.S., became believers, and were baptized here, joining the fellowship with the brothers and sisters of CGC.

Most of the members of our church speak both Mandarin and English. We teach the children in our Sunday school and the teenagers in our youth ministry in English.

English Ministry

Realizing that our future lies in developing a faithful English speaking ministry, in 2015 we started the adult English Ministry.  Our goal is to serve adults who prefer to worship in English.  These members are multi-lingual or cross-cultural. We welcome everybody who wants to be a part of this new but growing ministry.  Our English Ministry goal is to CONNECT with God, individually and corporately, GROW as a biblically trained church family, and CHANGE the world for the glory of God. Our hope is that the young adults who speak English will be a leading force to spread Gospel in our community and around the world in the 21st century.
